Run gpedit.mscBless this anonymous internet user's heart.
Go to User Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Attachment Manager
Add "*.exe" to the "Inclusion list for moderate risk file types" setting.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, the consumer versions of Windows Vista do not have gpedit.
Thank you so much. Life is wonderful again!
ReplyDeleteworks on windows7 retail.
ReplyDeleteThat worked a treat.
ReplyDeleteThanks dude. Works great
ReplyDeleteWorks on Windows7. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis was *exactly* what I needed. Thank you so much!!
ReplyDelete(I was actually having this issue only when trying to open programs through my start menu that were directed through .lnk links. I added that to the list, and it worked perfectly.)
And I should add that this was in Windows 7 Ultimate.
ReplyDeleteYeah it worked for me too. Running Windows 7 Pro, fully updated as of 3/14/2011.
ReplyDeleteAnother hack suggests doing a similar process and using "*.*" or "*.exe* instead of ".exe". If you follow this alternate hack, the hack will fail because the asterisks mess it up.
Anyway, thanks for this bro, hopefully this doesn't allow viruses to run their .exe files without my permission or some such, but whatever.
Thank you so much. Works like a charm!

ReplyDeleteIs there a way using regedit, instead gpedit.msc, for windows home premium users?
