Disable the Incredibly Annoying "Do You Want to Run This File?" Prompt

Here's how:
Run gpedit.msc

Go to User Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Attachment Manager

Add "*.exe" to the "Inclusion list for moderate risk file types" setting.
Bless this anonymous internet user's heart.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, the consumer versions of Windows Vista do not have gpedit.

  5. This was *exactly* what I needed. Thank you so much!!

(I was actually having this issue only when trying to open programs through my start menu that were directed through .lnk links. I added that to the list, and it worked perfectly.)

  6. And I should add that this was in Windows 7 Ultimate.

  7. Yeah it worked for me too. Running Windows 7 Pro, fully updated as of 3/14/2011.

Another hack suggests doing a similar process and using "*.*" or "*.exe* instead of ".exe". If you follow this alternate hack, the hack will fail because the asterisks mess it up.

Anyway, thanks for this bro, hopefully this doesn't allow viruses to run their .exe files without my permission or some such, but whatever.
